Advice for parents
For your child's well-being:
- Check the weather and dress them appropriately — not too warm, not too light (hat, neck warmer, sunscreen, etc.),
- Slip a snack and your phone number into your child’s pocket,
- Children may feel unsettled when parents are nearby. Even if it’s tempting to watch your little one ski, please avoid staying around the course area.
Equipment :
- Helmet and gloves are strongly recommended,
- Skis and boots suited to your child’s size and level — poles only from 1ère étoile upwards,
- For snowboard: wrist guards and padded shorts are advised,
- Clothing and equipment in good condition,
- Sunglasses or goggles strongly recommended,
- Sun cream.
Please note:
- Skiing is an outdoor activity, and mountain weather conditions can be unpredictable. Weather or technical disruptions on the ski area are beyond esf’s control and will not result in refunds.
- There is no official regulation on class sizes. At esf Saint-Lary, we voluntarily cap groups at 12 students for quality reasons — although this number may occasionally be exceeded.
- Group consistency is key to success and takes precedence over group size.
- If a ski instructor is unexpectedly unable to teach, students may be reassigned to other groups of the same level.
- A 2-hour group lesson may not last exactly 2 hours — time is needed for welcome, briefing, and wrap-up.
- The first — and often second — session is dedicated to group harmonization. This is essential for a successful stay.
- Your child may be placed in a different level group than the one booked — trust the instructors’ expertise.
- Our instructors are available to give you feedback — feel free to speak with them at the end of the day.
- Be early at lesson start time. It’s hard to catch up with your group once it’s on the slopes. Please also be on time to collect your child at the end of the session.
Important to know:
- Booking a week of lessons does not automatically mean your child will move up to the next level — especially with shared-instructor formats. Even with two sets of 3x2-hour sessions, it may not be possible to achieve two level upgrades in one week.
- It is generally possible to pass the Flocon or 1ère étoile in a single week, but higher levels require more time and practice.
- As technical demands increase with each level, multiple weeks are often necessary to acquire the required skills.
- While earning a new "étoile" is a strong motivator, a poorly handled failure can be discouraging. We strongly recommend preparing your child for this possibility.
- We also advise parents to ski with their children outside lesson times so they can practice what they’ve learned.
Skiing should always remain fun — don’t overestimate your child’s abilities and stick to slopes that suit their level.

Choose your ski pass
Ski passes are not included in the lesson fees. Every student must hold a valid pass before attending their lesson. This pass also gives you access to the cable car and/or gondola from the village up to the resort.
(Except for Club Piou Piou — see our lift pass tips below.)

If you already have a rechargeable ski card — even from last season — you can reload it online without going through the ticket office. It’s also a great eco-friendly choice!

Get insured
Skiing involves inherent risks that even a qualified instructor cannot eliminate. You are not insured by esf when taking part in a lesson.
- Altiservice offers insurance when you purchase your lift pass — it covers, among other things, rescue costs on the slopes, but does not cover ski lessons.
- On our website, when purchasing online, you can opt for AREAS - MARSH online insurance, which covers cancellations or interruptions of lessons, allowing for reimbursement.
- If you book directly at the desk, our team may offer Allianz Travel insurance with similar coverage.
